What is the Housing support initiative for Ukraine?

Accepted Answer

Wunderflats started this housing initiative with the aim of activating available housing for displaced Ukrainians and making it available to them - if possible free of charge or at very low rents. The rent is set by the landlords/-ladies. The use of the Wunderflats platform for this initiative is free of charge for all participants.      Here is the link for the housing initiative from Wunderflats.

Question 2

How can I offer housing?

Accepted Answer

If you would like to offer accommodation (entire apartment, house, private room or shared place), you can post it here.     Any accommodation you are willing to rent to people in need makes a big difference. Offering it at a lower rent or, if at all possible, at no charge is a huge plus. Please consider offering your available space for at least one month.     The places you make available here can only be rented by people displaced by the war in Ukraine.

How do I create a listing for people displaced by the war in Ukraine?

Accepted Answer

For this purpose we have built a specific Ukraine-platform. Please enter your email address here in order to create a Wunderflats account. You will receive an email with a confirmation link from us. Please click on that link to confirm your registration.     You can then create an online listing for your accommodation here. Please provide the following information in your listing:   - The address of your accommodation to indicate to the searchers the approximate location (the exact address will not be visible to the public).  - The minimum booking duration is one month. We’ve learnt that the people in need who come to us appreciate mid- or longer term housing offers that enable them to regain a little stability.  - Choose the amount of rent or set it to 0€.  Currently, two thirds of the people registered with us offer free housing for people in need.   - The maximum number of people you can welcome.  -  The type of accommodation, the size of the living space, the number of rooms, and the floor on which the accommodation is located.     Some fields of the listing are already pre-filled, but they are editable for you:    - Please change the default setting from Pets Not Allowed to Pets Allowed if you allow pets.  - Your listing will automatically be pre-filled with basic information in German/English and Ukrainian. You can add to this information at any time.     The last step is to publish your listing. Afterwards, your housing offer can be requested by people in need. If you receive a request, you will be notified via email. You can view the request in your Wunderflats account   and ideally accept it. To accept your first request we will ask you to verify your identity. In order to ensure safety for both sides we will also verify the tenants.   After accepting, you will receive the contact information of the tenants to coordinate the move-in.

Question 4

How can people who fled Ukraine find accommodation?

Accepted Answer

Available accommodations all over Germany are listed per city on our specific Ukraine-platform. People from Ukraine can request suitable options directly online. We forward these requests to the landlords/-ladies. As soon as there is a match and the person in need has verified their identity on our platform, we will exchange their contact details with the housing provider. They can get in touch with each other and organise the move-in.      These offers are made available exclusively to people displaced by the war in Ukraine and can only be rented by them.  If no suitable housing has been found online, people from Ukraine can indicate their housing needs to us via this link. We will then manually try to find housing for them as quickly as possible. Question 5

Will the landlords/-ladies & displaced people from Ukraine be verified?

Accepted Answer

Central to the housing initiative is the security aspect. Together with Veriff Wunderflats verifies both, home providers and people from Ukraine. The personal information needed for verification will not be stored or published.     Wunderflats offers rental agreements in German, Russian and Ukrainian for the housing initiative.

Question 6

Does Wunderflats earn any money with this?

Accepted Answer

No. We offer this service free of charge. The initiative is currently run by many of our Wunderflats employees as well as additional volunteers and we provide servers and technology.

Question 7

How is the data given by landlords/-ladies and displaced Ukrainians to Wunderflats protected?

Accepted Answer

Security for all persons involved is a top priority for us at Wunderflats - and this includes the issue of data security.   We never publish any personal data - neither from housing providers nor from people looking for accommodation.   All personal data related to the housing initiative will only be used for our efforts to provide available housing to Ukrainians in need. All participants can request the deletion of their data at any time. Wunderflats acts as a data controller in accordance with Wunderflats' privacy policy.

Question 8

How can landlords/-ladies safeguard their property and accommodation during the period of tenancy?

Accepted Answer

We generally recommend that all our landlords/-ladies take out liability insurance or household insurance to protect themselves against any damage that might occur. In addition, we are currently working on further solutions to enable housing providers to protect against possible damage.

What are the current entry regulations for people from Ukraine and where can I find more information?

Accepted Answer

Displaced persons from Ukraine can actually immigrate into Germany without a biometric passport and visa or any other residency title. In order to receive a temporary residency permit pursuant to § 24 AufenthG they will have to file an application with the responsible agency for foreign nationals upon arrival. The Federal Office Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community provides information for people from Ukraine on entering and staying in Germany in Englisch and Ukrainian.     In Berlin, the State Office for Refugee Affairs (LAF) provides support.
